About FuelPrice Live

Why we built a simple, honest fuel-price comparison — and how it works.

Our purpose

Fuel prices affect almost everything: the cost of commuting, food, freight, and travel. Yet finding a trustworthy cross-country comparison is surprisingly hard — figures are scattered across national agencies, quoted in different currencies and units, and often months out of date.

FuelPrice Live exists to fix that. We compile a clean, weekly snapshot of retail petrol and diesel prices for 170 countries, convert everything to a common US-dollar-per-litre baseline, and present it in a table you can search and sort. No clutter, no paywall, no jargon — just the numbers and the context you need to understand them.

Whether you are planning a road trip, researching cost-of-living differences, or simply curious why filling a tank costs six times more in Oslo than in Riyadh, this site is for you.

Methodology

Our current price table is a sample snapshot labelled "13 October 2026, updates weekly." It was researched from the following public sources:

  • GlobalPetrolPrices.com — the core reference for retail petrol and diesel prices in most countries, updated weekly (week of 12 October 2026).
  • EU Weekly Oil Bulletin — official pump prices for EU member states (week of 28 September 2026).
  • US Energy Information Administration (EIA) — US national averages (week of 28 September 2026).
  • RAC / DESNZ — UK retail averages (October 2026).
  • PPAC — Indian retail prices, New Delhi (October 2026).

We standardise every figure to price per litre, show the local-currency price exactly as drivers see it at the pump, and add a US-dollar conversion for fair comparison. Weekly trend arrows reflect the approximate week-on-week change of each national average.

Our roadmap is to replace the weekly researched snapshot with a live fuel-price API feed. The site's code already contains a dedicated configuration block for an API key and endpoint, so the dataset can move to automatic updates without redesign.

Limitations — read this before relying on the numbers

  • National averages hide local differences. Fuel prices vary by city, station brand, and motorway versus urban forecourt. The table shows the national average, not the price at your nearest pump.
  • Some countries freeze or administer prices. India's retail prices, for example, can stay unchanged for months under government direction; Libya's prices are near-fully subsidised. "Flat" trends in these markets are policy, not market stability.
  • Currency conversions move daily. USD/L figures are computed at the exchange rates prevailing when the snapshot was compiled; a week later the same local price can convert differently.
  • This is not financial or travel advice. The figures are an editorial snapshot for information only. Always check local sources before making travel or business decisions based on them.

Original content commitment

Everything on FuelPrice Live — the price table, the trend analysis, the "What drives fuel prices" explainer — is written originally for this site. We cite public data sources, but we do not copy their articles, reword their text, or scrape their feeds. When we quote a figure, we say where it came from.
